Il y a près de 25 ans, j’ai découvert avec fascination Litany for the Whale grâce à l’enregistrement de Paul Hillier et du Theatre of Voices. Je me souviens encore de ce moment quasi hypnotique, captivé et ébahi par la force et la sérénité de cette musique. Il y a quelques mois, alors que nous échangions avec Paweł Szczepanik en prévision de la venue de Thélème au Kromer Festival Biecz 2024, je lui ai fait part de mon rêve de trouver un cadre adéquat pour une performance de cette oeuvre merveilleuse de John Cage. Quelques jours avant les représentations, j’ai lu dans les publications autour du festival: « la soirée et la nuit appartiennent à Thélème » (on croirait un vers tiré d’un air de cour français baroque!). Je ne peux dire combien j’ai été heureux de chanter cette merveille à Biecz. Merci à Ivo Haun, ami et chanteur de Thélème depuis toujours et merci à Paweł Szczepanik et au Kromer Festival Biecz! Almost 25 years ago, I discovered Litany for the Whale with great fascination, thanks to a recording by Paul Hillier and the Theatre of Voices. I still remember that almost hypnotic moment, captivated and amazed by the strength and serenity of the music. A few months ago, when we were talking with Paweł Szczepanik about Thélème's performance at the Kromer Festival Biecz 2024, I told him about my dream of finding a suitable setting for a performance of this wonderful work by John Cage. A few days before the performances, I read in the publications about the festival: ‘la soirée et la nuit appartiennent à Thélème (the evening and the night belong to Thélème)’ (it sounds like a line from a French baroque court aria!). I can't say how happy I was to sing this gem in Biecz. Thanks to Ivo Haun, a lifelong friend and singer of Thélème, and thanks to Paweł Szczepanik and the Kromer Festival Biecz! Vor fast 25 Jahren entdeckte ich Litany for the Whale mit grosser Faszination, dank einer Aufnahme von Paul Hillier und dem Theatre of Voices. Ich erinnere mich noch gut an diesen fast hypnotischen Moment, in dem ich von der Kraft und Ruhe der Musik gefesselt und verblüfft war. Vor einigen Monaten, als wir mit Paweł Szczepanik über die Aufführung von Thélème beim Kromer Festival Biecz 2024 sprachen, erzählte ich ihm von meinem Traum, einen geeigneten Rahmen für eine Aufführung dieses wunderbaren Werks von John Cage zu finden. Ein paar Tage vor den Aufführungen las ich in den Veröffentlichungen über das Festival: 'la soirée et la nuit appartiennent à Thélème (der Abend und die Nacht gehören Thélème)' (das klingt wie eine Zeile aus einer französischen Barock-Hofarie!) Ich kann gar nicht sagen, wie glücklich ich war, dieses Juwel in Biecz zu singen. Danke an Ivo Haun, einen lebenslangen Freund und Sänger von Thélème, und danke an Paweł Szczepanik und das Kromer Festival Biecz! Besonderen Dank an Ada Bystrzycka für das kosmische Lichtdesign.
